Our completely bullshit idea of modern society, entirely shallow and fuelled by consumerism, assuming we're better than thouands of years of accepted cultural behaviour? Standard.

So a guy I stopped dating returned my belt to me and on it he had attached a note with Manic St Preachers lyrics on it. I googled it and it's the Departure song apparently, why would a 25 year old man do that?

Also, new theory. If you bump into a guy you fancy in the street and he doesn't hug you this means he fancies you too right? Because if he didn't fancy you he'd greet you like a friend. If anything else the theory is certainly convenient for my life.

You're a full on mental and I wouldn't hug you because of that alone.

If refusing to touch a member of the opposite sex could be justified with any rational reasoning then yeah, sure.

So why is it a problem all of a sudden? You're religious. You don't think it's right to touch people of the opposite sex 'cause you're a fucking fiend and you might rape them after feeling the grooves of their palm. That's your belief system, and if you dig that, then so be it.

Because modern society is at least having a stab at women's rights.

It's not a problem, they're entitled to their belief system. But I wouldn't even countenance the notion it's a better idea than shaking someone's hand like a rational human being, no matter how 'fuelled by consumerism' the society that developed this crazy, affable behaviour is.

Couldn't agree more with Matt A. As a society, we're continually inventing new values and fucking off the old ones. We perpetually arrive at a final set of acceptable standards and behaviour, only to bugger it off as ignorant nonsense in the following generation. Morals work just like fashion, we latch onto new justifications, but it's all the same old bullshit regurgitated. Whether someone wants to use religion or science as a justification for their behaviour, I really don't give a fuck, I'm only interested in the actual outcome and how it fits with my own prejudice about how the world should be, which is pretty much how all morality works. Logical justification for self-interested desire.

my favourite bit about religion is when people pick and choose which bits of the doctrine fit their own purposes. my second favourite bit is that numerous translations and changes to the texts means you can't even be sure that's what was written in the first place.

that said, if you followed any religious text to the letter you'd be very confused and probably quite angry every single day.

I want to move back to London. It's SUMMER so it doesn't need to rain every day. Especially when I want to put my washing out on the line.

Proposed to my girlfriend on stage at Less Than Jake on Saturday, she said yes. I know I don't post much, but I'm in a 'shout it from the rooftops' type mood.

I'm not suggesting she wouldn't have said yes in other circumstances but really public proposals like that always feel like a gun to the head sort of scenario.

Congrats by the way.

this broad grabs the gun, turns it around and shoots the chump in the heart with it

at the end of the day, if somebody doesn't wanna marry you she ain't gonna say yes just because there's loads of people there. or if she's weak she might say yes and then break it off soon after.

Yeah, also there's the fact that she's been bugging me about getting engaged for a while now, I just wanted to find a way that was 'us' you know? Less Than Jake are a pretty big part of my life and so is she, so I had Buddy present the ring for me to give to her as a way of 'passing the torch'.
