carpet/rugs on laminate flooring

Postby Jammer » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:57 pm

first, sorry for the recent shitty help topics i've been posting.

i live in rented accommodation where my room has wooden flooring and i hate it. it gets dusty easily, the flooring isn't even nice and i can't put things on the walls so the room just looks dull.

i've looked into getting carpet put over the flooring but apparently this can't be done without damaging the flooring as grippers need to be nailed into the floor. i've phoned the agency who told me that our landlord won't allow carpet in my room even though i've offered to pay. funnily enough my flatmate has carpet in his. (probably because my room can be an extension onto the living room as it has a 'sliding door' next to it)

if anyone knows of any places to get big cheap rugs or easily get carpet over wooden floor without damaging it or any ideas to make my room feel abit less depressing, please share! x

you can get cans of glue spray to use to stick the carpet down. i sometimes do work for a guy who is pretty bigtime in the world of carpets and that's what we do when laying carpet on concrete floors (ie floors where you can't nail gripper rods down)

In conclusion: to put carpet down without damaging the floor, absolutely ruin it with glue.

Surely a big rug would be fine?

Get some of that black grippy stuff. Wilko sell it in rolls. You know the stuff, it looks like mesh and bizzarely stops your phone flying off the dashboard in the car. Put it on the floor, put a giant rug on top.

I'll never question your glue-based expertise ever again.

But surely the same effect can be obtained by spilling a load of cheap pop?
