Watched Saving Private Ryan last night. I'd seen it before but the last time I watched it, was like 9 years ago during an end of term school day when I really wasn't arsed about it. So good, was such a great watch and had me gripped throughout. One thing that irked me a little was slight errors in continuity such as how one moment the squad are soaked through and the next they look bone dry and far far cleaner. But still incredibly good. Liked the visuals of it all, and I even filled up a little at the end. Tom Hanks always delivers.
Then after that I watched The Great Raid which was still a good film and really told the story of the POW camps and stuff but it feel a bit too clean and Hollywood. Enjoyed it.

My favourite part of Saving Private Ryan is where the Nazi sniper gets his eye blown out at the hands of the really cool USA sniper that never misses. So artistic.

Loved Melancholia, if that's the right word. One of the most depressing, yet compelling film experiences I can remember.
Also watched Battle Royale today; very silly, over the top fun with terrible acting.

I watched Layer Cake last night and really enjoyed it. Some of the casting was a little bit strange but overall it was a good watch.
Speaking of snipers, the scene in the park in Layer Cake where Daniel Craig's character hires a hitman to take out the drug boss was pretty sweet. Not as a cool as the Saving Private Ryan sniper though.

I'd just like to point out that my comment regarding the sniper scene in SPR was soaked in sarcasm. Saving Private Ryan is absolute bullshit.

Sounds to me like he did enjoy it.
I bought Battle Royale the other day, I've seen it lots of times but I just wanted the physical DVD for my collection. Also bought 'The good the bad and the weird' so will watch that tonight.

I think it is getting a general release sometime this year (Feb or March I presume) so look out for it, I'm not sure how wide the general release will be though. I enjoyed it for the most part but some bits in it: looked and felt quite amature compared to how well made House of the Devil was made. Still worth a watch but, in my opinion, it isn't as good as HotD which I also absolutely loved and thought was the best FrightFest 09 film.
Where were you sat?

Battle Royale was this weekends midnight screening at my local cinema. Meant to go, but go drunk instead. Error.

Haha, I read it and thought "lolsarcasm" and then people took it seriously. Artistic. Good work. We watched Columbiana. I don't know why really, but it turned out reasonably passable. Didn't have to think, there were some sweet killings and a ridiculous five minute comlumbian shanty town rooftop parkour escape chase with a 5 year old girl out running the entire comlumbian drugs mafia. Roo loved it.

echoing the posh cinema love here. There's one in Berkhampstead which have proper sofas and tables and chairs where they bring you cheese and biscuits during the film, plus some posh camp man always introduces the films to you and tells you loads of interesting facts. its great. theyre restoring an old odeon in St Albans too and making it into a similar thing.

Watched Drive earlier. Great soundtrack and Gosling really does translate well as a psychopath even though he only says about 50 words in the entire film. Overall an enjoyable watch that was pretty stunning to look at in certain scenes.

Enjoyed The Descendants. The teenage daughter was hella hot, and Matthew Lillard wasn't a total twat. Can't see it winning any oscars though

Unfortunately not but it would of been ace if we did! It'd be pretty cool to meet you and others from PT for FrightFest fun to talk about movies, get recommendations and the like. Infact I could have quite a lengthy conversation with a lot of people from here about movies; some of the ones I have watched recently (and avoided aswell haha, although not so much!) came from the back of peoples comments from here.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Excellent cast, well shot which perfectly reflects the Cold War paranoia - it's certainly something you really do need to pay attention to - otherwise the long list of characters and plot will get lost on you. The pacing is very good, paranoia dressed in puffs of cigarettes, tired old men sat small rooms in London and flashbacks set up the film very well. Gary Oldman was very good throughout.

If you think Oldman is gonna win best actor you might as well bet on Wolves winning the Premier League
