ADVENTURES ON 35MM: Aspiga

glass

Adventures on 35mm is a photo diary project where we give you a disposable camera to take on tour and you take photos with it. The idea came about when Maryam Hassan found a box of disposable cameras in her room and didn’t know what to do with them. She gave one to some friends going on tour and it grew from there. The beauty of the project is that when the photos go up the are a surprise to everyone, it’s like Christmas and your birthday rolled in to one. We are happy to now be hosting this on Punktastic!

ASPIGA

We asked the guys: what was it like having a disposable camera to play with?

I can’t tell you the last time that I went on the road with a disposable camera.

Before my phone, I used a digital camera. Seeing these pictures truly puts a smile on my face. There’s something about the mystery of not knowing which pictures will turn out, who will have their eyes open, or how awful you might actually look that makes using a disposable camera so much more fun. W

ith that being said, I think it’s only fair that I write a bit about “naked stage diving.”

Naked stage diving has become a tradition on Aspiga tours. I want to say that it started on one of our tours with Broadcaster. However, before that, it was happening in the tiny confines of our van while we weren’t on tour.

My first memory of the naked stage dive involved my friends Rob Wilcox and Dan Saraceni of By Surprise. While driving home from Ocean City, NJ, we decided to blast “Until Your Heart Stops” by Cave In. This album got Rob really pumped up. In typical Rob fashion, he decided to get naked. He took it a step further by launching himself from the front of the van to the back and landing on Dan. This was a naked stage dive.

However, the way you see it in this photo started in some random hotel on the road. Again, I believe that this started on a tour with Broadcaster. Ray decided to get naked and launch himself from bed to bed. This is the naked stage dive tradition that I speak of. If my memory serves me right, Ray scraped his knuckles pretty good on his first attempt. We loved it so much that now Ray will do this at least once in whatever hotel that we stay in. It makes any bad day instantly better.

Aspiga are from New Jersey and have a new album out via Paper and Plastick on October 21st ‘What Happened To You’. You can grab a pre-order of this here, one package include a rather nifty sloth mug! You can catch them on tour and at FEST later in the month.

If you are in a band and would like to get involved with this project please email Maryam (maryam@punktastic.com) for a camera! For more galleries go to the website: http://adventureson35mm.com/
