Green Day and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts to be inducted into the Hall of Fame

Green Day have been announced as one of six acts to be inducted into the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bands only become eligible for the accolade 25 years after their first single, with only a very small selection being inducted that very year. Green Day are now celebrating this achievement, with ‘1,000 Hours’ – their debut EP – being release in 1989.

Iconic punks Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are also on the list, which is completed by Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

The formal ceremony will take place on the 18th April 2015 at Cleveland’s Public Hall, with tickets going on sale this Thursday.

“It’s surreal and very humbling,” Joan Jett says speaking to Rolling Stone magazine. “It’s a culmination of all you’ve dreamed about doing as a musician. I’ve always been hopeful [that I’d get in] because I think it’s an incredible acknowledgment. I’m very proud to be with all these great musicians. It’s going to take a few minutes to sink in before I see how I really feel about it.”

Also, head to Rolling Stone for a full interview with Green Day frontman, Billy Joe Armstrong.
