First play of the debut Tommy Rutland full-length

By Ben Tipple

Adelaide based electro infused one-man punk outfit Tommy Rutland made his name touring as the frontman for Epitaph signed post-hardcore act Dangerous!. On ‘The Iconography Of Our Youth’, the Australian has been freed to express his own blend of angry punk, veiled under a hearty dose of DZ Deathrays-esque thrash-pop – with more than a little debauchery.

Aided by his encounter with the psychedelic Ayahuasca broth in the Californian desert, Rutland’s debut solo release races between the serious and the jovial. To Rutland, it’s an expression of himself. “”I was so happy to be able to play and record all the instruments on this album,” he notes. “And for the most part mix and master the tracks too. I finally had the chance to portray what I’ve always wanted: My soul.”

Produced by fellow Australian Forester Savell, whose catalogue includes work by Karnivool and The Butterfly Effect, and New Yorker Marc McClusky, who has worked with alternative veterans Weezer and Bad Religion, Tommy Rutland is set to release ‘The Iconography Of Our Youth’ on the 27th February.
