First play of the new Northernmost track

By Ben Tipple

“We had no plans at the time for the music to become an album or anything more than what it was,” Northernmost frontman Jesse Field says, detailing the origins of the band. “We were both so tired and frustrated with the band situation that we wanted something no expectations, just free expression.”

The Massachusetts based post-hardcore five-piece spawned from the dissolution of other local bands, most notably The Refraction and Pathfinder, yet Northernmost’s emotionally tinged tones don’t necessary follow in these footsteps. On ‘Culprit’ the band resemble the later material by Brand New and Sainthood Reps, delivering a more experimental take on the traditional emo sound.

“Eventually, after several songs came together I thought ‘hey, maybe i’ll try singing on some of these,’ and it just clicked,” Field goes on to say. “I wasn’t close to where I wanted to be, but the emotion was right and I felt I had a lot to say after recently getting out of a tough relationship, dealing with numerous family pressures, etc. It was perfect timing.”

Northernmost released their debut full-length earlier this year to great critical acclaim, and are now preparing to follow it up with the release of their ‘Culprit’ EP. The self-release is due for general release on the 4th November 2014. Ahead of this, the band are exclusively streaming the record’s title track via the SoundCloud player below.
