Let Ever wake you up with ‘My Conscience Is Asleep’

By Ben Tipple

Stoke-On-Trent might not be the obvious place to spawn the type of grunge-meets-skate punk delivered by Ever, yet the four-piece have clearly been soaking in a combination of stateside and UK acts in developing their sound. With a healthy dose of hardcore punk added into the mix, theirs nods to the likes of earlier Title Fight material, Gnarwolves (see the start of lead single ”95′), Moose Blood, Balance and Composure and Basement throughout this five track EP.

“‘My Conscience Is Asleep’ is a collection of stories about the truth and then positive upbeat music representing how I coped with it,” says vocalist and guitarist Luke Medlock. As with many of their contemporaries, the EP is a cathartic release. Upbeat yes, but equally noisy and raw.

In its softer moments, see ‘Cellar Door’, it retains a powerful menace that runs throughout the band’s instrumentation. Ultimately, ‘My Conscience Is Asleep’ adds expanse to an otherwise deliberately claustrophobic sound.
