Live the ghost’s life through the new Brightr video

By Ben Tipple

It’s already been quite the year for Brightr; the one-man acoustic act by emo singer-songwriter Laurie Cottingham. As well as releasing his debut self-titled EP and touring Europe alongside Prawn and Hindsights, Brightr has teamed up with Scottish outfit Veto for a split record.

“This is the first track from the split I just released with Veto,” Cottingham explains of ‘You Wish You Were Here’. “It’s about feeling a little lost in despair, but then making your mood pretty awesome again… having translation problems, but then finding common ground.”

With that in mind, Cottingham lead the charge for the particularly random video, depicting the vocalist as a ghost, going about his ghostly business. The whimsical, often charming video attempts to match the song’s message. “I hoped the video would turn out bittersweet and darkly heartwarming, but in hindsight it’s just plain weird. Ghost Party fun times!” Cottingham admits.

“No previously unbroken guitars were harmed in the making of this video,” he jokes.

Brightr’s split with Veto is available now via BandCamp, alongside his debut self-titled EP. For more on Brightr, check out Facebook.
