Fights & Fires / Idle Class – Split

By Bradley Lengden

What happens when 2 of the most promising and hardest working punk bands around right now get together? Something brilliant right? That’s definitely the case when British punks, Fights & Fires teamed up with German outfit, Idle Class to release a 7″ split.

Fights & Fires have a more robust, unrefined style to their music, an angsty, shouty attitude to their trade with worn coarse sounding vocals that fit perfectly. Intertwining their clear classic rock influences and mixing the big old fashioned rock and roll riffs immensely well with more modern hardcore punk. In short a good old fashioned, unadulterated British Punk band with a twist, it’s something that’s beyond satisfying to hear, a real honesty about it all.

Whilst Idle class bring more of a melodic punk, not in the realm of pop punk, but definitely equipped for more of a sing a long when the big chorus’ drop. There’s more of a clean cut feel to the cleaner vocal sections, but that’s not to say there’s any less energy, there is still an unrelenting pace about them employing these huge explosions, particularly the ending of ‘What Would Bukowski Do?’

Both groups compliment each other insanely well, there’s 2 clearly different influences on both outfits but both with the same ideals, both blending perfectly. There’s an ongoing theme of giving the middle finger to the mundane, run of the mill 9 to 5 life, the oldest, yet relevant as ever sentiments of punk music, making it ever more accessible.
