Prolong the Agony – ‘All We Are’

By Jess Tagliani

Prolong the Agony have released a killer EP in the form of ‘All We Are’. They come prepared with a wealth of touring experience, having supported the likes of Crossfaith, iwrestledabearonce, Bury Tomorrow, and Glamour Of the Kill over the last six years, as well as a run on the famous US Warped Tour. In turn, this has taught them the finer crafts of how to create a release that’ll make people speak volumes about their work and their talent for a very, very long time.

From the start, these Portsmouth lads know how make huge anthems that come complete with chunky, meaty riffs. Opening track ‘Dead Dreams’ sees frontman Larry Welling’s guttural screams pad this song out; his screams would make Bury Tomorrow’s Dani Winter-Bates either shed a tear or become green with envy because of how strong and visceral Welling’s vocals are.

‘Counting the Days’ and ‘Loved & Lost’ assault the ear drums, with their crushing riffs and infectious choruses. Their frenetic energy simply burns and blisters, as demonstrated during ‘Backstabbers’ – the guitar layers are thick and robust, whilst the vocals demand and then commander your attention. They end with ‘Loveless’, another massive track; angry lyrics of “You’re fucking dead to me” combine with huge riffs and monster drum work to create a strong ending.

From the start to the end, Prolong the Agony’s release grabs you by the throat, screaming for your acknowledgement and time. It’s a stunning EP, one that wouldn’t look out of place on the discography of either Architects or Bury Tomorrow. It’s raw, relentless, and ruthless, just like them. Keep an eye on them, as they’ll definitely be favourites to be Britain’s next favourite metalcore act.
