Automatic Loveletter – S/T

By paul

For some reason a lot of people have heard of Juliet Simms but not of her band, Automatic Loveletter. After guest stints with All Time Low and Cartel, modelling for Skelanimals and regularly appearing in the pages of AltPress, the singer is certainly a bigger draw than her band. This is the band’s newest EP and it’s by far their best work yet. It’s very slick, catchy pop-punk so if you’re a fan of the genre you will love this record. It’s short at just 3 songs but each track has a solid hook and Juliet’s vocal, which is a little raspy, sets her apart from your Hayley’s and Sierra’s of the world.

‘Goodbye’ is a little token pop-punk with some predictable and cliche ridden lyrics, but as a song it’s the best here. It builds up to a huge chorus and will have you singing along within the first two or three listens. ‘Hush’ is another decent stab at pop-punk with another catchy chorus. If the band wanted to take off in 2009 this is a good start – it does nothing new and isn’t quite at the level Paramore have set the standard for, but this is a good, solid EP which will attract new fans and take the band to the next level. Maybe Juliet and the band will be featured more than the singer herself in the future…
