When I first came across Bullets and Octane I immediately thought of Velvet Revolver. ‘In The Mouth of the Young’ does little to shed those comparisons. This is more a rock record than anything else, with ballsy riffs that you can imagine are probably peeled off with a cigarette in mouth and a foot on a monitor. And for what it is, ‘In The Mouth of the Young’ is pretty good. It’s just not my thing at all. If I wanted to listen to Scott Weiland-a-likes sing I’d buy a Stone Temple Pilots record. While B+O are a far more commercial band than both STP and VR, they’re not as good as either. ‘Going Blind’ is a half-decent song and there are several others that have catchy parts, but I’m left thinking all too often that this just isn’t for me. With Sony behind them I am sure they will do very well, but it’s all a bit ‘meh’ for me…
