Cerebral Ballzy – Cerebral Ballzy

By Tom Aylott

Cerebral Ballzy are stuck in the past, sound like a mess and probably have nothing nice to say about anyone… in entirely the best way possible.

This dozen strong blast of snotty, lo-fi, pissed off and lightening fast punk reminisces a whole stack of US band from a while back, and in some ways it’s a bit depressing because it reminds you of all of the things that punk has lost in recent years – the sort of naive, aggressive and uncompromising attitude of young punk bands that made them so exciting, and though not accounting for taste, it’s great to hear bands being unafraid to go balls out once in a while.

Sure, rocket science this ain’t, but there’s never a shortage of to-the-point, well executed and uncontrived music, and Cerebral Ballzy are just about true enough to their influences and acknowledging of what year it is to make the best of both worlds.

Picking songs to stand out from this self titled record is a bit redundant as it jumps from start to finish in no time at all and you’ll know exactly what you’re getting from the word go, but if you’re after something new, fast and pissed off look no further, Cerebral Ballzy have you covered.
