Fearless Vampire Killers – In Grandomina

By

FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS are a London-based pop-punk band with a twist. Their first EP has a concept behind it, telling the story of a fictional city and its inhabitants. Pop-punk with a darker twist, the songs are catchy and interesting. Stand-outs include the opener ‘Face In The Dirt’, a moody poppy romp, and ‘Don Teriesto’, a stylish uptempo number. Meanwhile, the lead single ‘Palace In Flames‘ is waltzing and decadent. While the concept is backed up by five strong songs, it seems a little simplistic with not enough depth available on such a short release – perhaps the theme will keep going through follow-ups, but at the moment there’s not enough to get your teeth into. It’s also a worry that Fearless Vampire Killers could be a little style over substance – catchy songs that don’t really have much more to them, the EP is certainly entertaining, but is that enough? For the moment it is – the band has got a clear identity, and if they follow up this taster with something more substantial, they’ll do well.
