Never So True – This is our adventure

By paul

It’s safe to say this is Northampton’s Never So True‘s best – and more importantly, most consistent – release yet. Moving away from the zombiefied skate-punk which dominated their last demos, the band are beginning to forge a poppy skate-punk which borrows equally from Hot Water Music and The Movielife, as much as New Found Glory and Fenix Tx. This EP is five solid songs which show plenty of promise – as anyone on the recent The Wonder Years tour will testify.

None of the five songs here leap out at you, instead they kind of burrow under your skin and on repeated listens really start to take effect. ‘Keep Smiling Kid’ could be the best of the bunch, but the qualities of ‘Super Happy Robot Zombies’ run it close. The guitar riffs and vocals are pretty solid throughout, although I have to say the drums sound really, really odd during opener ‘Chasing the Dream’. But that’s myabe just me. Either way, the best collection of songs the band have done yet and well worth checking out if you’re a fan of any of the aforementioned bands.
