This demo is an old recorded effort from One Toy Soldier, but it seems like they are on the quest to receive some new opinions and more up to date press quotes for their biog sheet, so I’ll happily oblige – especially as this CD is so damn good.
Only two tracks, but still enough to make me want to listen to this band more and more. Branding themselves “screamo rock†but to be what I would class as the more melodic side of screamo, OTS draw influence from bands such as Dashboard Confessional, TBS and Jimmy Eat World to combine a wonderful, mature sound that would easily be at home in the MTV play list. Both tracks, “Your Loss†and “Force Of Patience†are poppy, but still catch you with a raw, driving edge, which you often find yourself praying to drive at you harder, and it often does, but thankfully never goes over the top. This band certainly knows how to find the pleasant medium between quiet melody and aggressive, energetic power. As the vocals drift from meaningful, sweet whispers to full on spitting rage screaming, OTS sew it all together with competent musicianship, throwing in pianos to complement the distorted guitars.
Seems to me we will be seeing even more of this band through out 2005, and if this old demo is anything to go by, the new material should be awesome.
