Someone Else formed in February 2003. The original members were Caz, Mike, Langy and Dan. After recording a demo Someone Else Were able to get support slots in Wolverhampton and Manchester. Due to lack of commitment, after playing Manchester Dan parted ways with the band. Pursey was the asked to play guitar for us. A new guitarist brought about a change in music style from pop punk, to a much more mature sounding melodic rock. The new style Someone Else completed the second demo “Someone Else e.p” in October 2004.
That was ripped straight from the band’s website. This record just didn’t inspire me enough to want to write anything interesting about them. In short, this record is so incredibly bland and dull I just don’t want to listen to it. To be honest, Someone Else are compotent musicians that play a very safe brand of poppy rock – some of the guitar parts actually reminded me of Puddle of Mudd. But this 3-tracker, as nicely produced and carefully crafted as it is, is just boring. There’s no emotion, no feeling and no balls. The vocals sare sappy and bland and the guitar lines dull and predictable. There’s nothing that makes you go ‘wow’ – there’s nothing to actually grab your attention at all.
This does read harsh I know, and Someone Else can actually play their instruments and perform really basic songs well. But we’ve now reviewed in excess of 1,200 records on Punktastic and if you want to mix with the big boys, you need to be better than this. It’s Christmas, I want to be entertained – not sent to sleep.
