Tigress – ‘Human’

By Mark McConville

They are so many female fronted bands these days that usually get compared to the pioneers that are Paramore. Well that’s understandable, as the vocals and styles are similar. But Tigress are the new charm on the chain, lead by the firecracker that is Katy Jackson, and their sound is actually more atmospheric and fierce than the colossal counterparts.

The music is infectious and commendable, arched towards a blend of seductive guitar sounds and precise vocal work. Married well, the EP will be something that the fanatics will fall for, with their heads nodding and their inner cores electrified. And as the they detach from the sound, they may feel calm and musically stimulated beyond expectation.

The EP is called ‘Human’ and it starts with ‘Alive’. It opens with a bashful guitar lick that progresses well. Jackson then pushes her voice to the limits, a voice that can go from an elegant tinge to a forceful beat in seconds. ‘Human’ commences with a competent drumbeat. The guitar sequence begins to grow, bursting the bubble of normality, adding a sense of originality. Jackson sings through the atmosphere beautifully, bellowing out her words of disenchantment. ‘Miracle’ quickly evolves from its slow start. The chorus is incredibly loud and decisive, orchestrated with heart and drive. The instrumentals are played out emphatically.

Tigress go beyond the norm. Their music has a certain infectiousness exuding from it.
