In a body blow to music lovers everywhere, file sharing giant Audiogalaxy has been shut down by the US body the RIAA.
AG mysteriously stopped working on Monday evening, but it has now become clear that the MP3 software – the most popular file-sharing tool on the net – had been asked to cease working.
This means that users can no longer download songs from that service.
Of course Napster has already been dismantled, and it now looks like AG will be going the same way. To me this is a massive body blow to all the smaller bands that rely on MP3 technology to spread the word. Not everyone who downloads stuff rips off full albums…
In seems the greed of the major labels has yet again gone before the good of the musician.
