Founding member of Polvo, Eddie Watkins, passes away

Eddie Watkins, the former drummer and founding member Polvo, has sadly passed away.

While the details surrounding his death are unclear, the news was confirmed by by Merge Records owner/Superchunk frontman, Mac McCaughan. He wrote the following statement on the Merge Records Facebook page.

“Stunned and saddened to hear of Eddie Watkins’ passing. It took a unique drummer to make those Polvo records & they are some of my favourite records, period. Classics. Sweet guy to be with on tour and in the studio. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Polvo were initially active between 1990 and 1998, releasing the highly influential ‘Todays Active Lifestyle’ LP, and ‘Celebrate The New Dark Age’ with Merge Records. The band also released material with Touch and Go records, and a number of other labels. They reformed in 2008 to play a number of shows and release more music, but without Eddie Watkins.

Out thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
