New venue by The Old Blue Last and Birthdays team to open in Camden, London

By Ben Tipple

The team behind The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch and Birthdays in Dalston are set to open a brand new music and DJ venue in Camden.

The Stillery, situated in the centre of Camden Town, will feature two floors playing host to a range of parties and club nights, as well as live shows and DJs. In keeping with their set-up at Birthdays, The Stillery will also feature a rotating kitchen residency.

“I think for us what’s really exciting about this project is that in many ways you feel like you’re having to re-learn your trade” say Ross Allmark, events boss at The Old Blue Last and Birthdays, when speaking of the first venture outside of East London. “It would be arrogant to think that what works in Shoreditch or Dalston is going to work in Camden, so we sorta have to start all over again.”

“I guess the first thing is that we didn’t want to open another bar in east London. It really felt like sometime last year the whole area reached saturation point and people were just opening bars in east because that’s the accepted logic. Customers have started to experience launch-fatigue.”

“For us Camden was the natural choice; when I was in my late teens and I started traveling into town it was the first area I visited, and for me will always be synonymous with alternative night life in London,” Allmark continues. “The opportunity to contribute to that tradition, and hopefully bring something a little different to it, is really exciting.”

The primary focus of the new venue will be as a hang-out space, according to Allmark. “Music is right at the heart of what we do, but with so many great venues in the area it wouldn’t make sense for us to set up another space geared solely to live stuff,” he explains. “The live stuff will happen when something comes along that we really, really believe in.”

Located at 18 Kentish Road, the venue will be open throughout the week, and as a members only club after 23:00. Membership is free and easy to obtain at the door, with various perks attached to it. Record Club Members will also be entitled to discounted entry and drinks.

The Stillery launches next month (September 2014).
