Myself and Mark are pleased to announce the birth of Punktastic Recordings – the record label offshoot of Punktastic.com. It’s been a long time coming, since we first discussed starting our own label back in 1999, but now we feel we are ready to dip our toes into the water. Punktastic has far outstripped whatever we thought we could do. We never thought anyone would read what we said and to reach this level has been amazing, but we know standing still now would be pointless. We have some major new developments, including the re-design, later in the year, but the label is the first. Rather than just writing about bands we want you to hear them. Our first release will be a compilation CD of around 20+ unreleased and new songs from bands we have championed since our conception. Already signed up are Milk2Sugars and The All New Adventures Of Us, with others in the pipeline. If all goes to plan it will be low cost and a label/cd launch party will coincide this summer. From there we hope to release records by bands that take our fancy. We are not naive enough to think we will make any cash from this, as we have always said we just want to extend what we do, using the platform we have created. We have helped so many bands get deals (inadvertently); now we want to help even more. The project is being backed separately to that of Punktastic, but we hope it will increase the exposure of new UK talent and get it into even more homes. Things will start slowly – a website will hopefully appear in the not-too-distant future – but the wheels are in motion. Updates will appear soon, a new forum will appear too, and of course we will be asking people to submit demos, MP3s and all that malarkey. The Punktastic community is ever-growing and as the Manchester Blink meet-up proved, is friendlier than ever. We want to keep this momentum and help UK bands get an even bigger leg-up…
