Weekly News Round Up – 23/02/14

By Charlie Mock

We’ve had a bloody good week here at Punktastic. Last week brought the announcement of an I Am The Avalanche show we’re putting on with our pals at Millionaire’s Cardiff.  Taking place on May 22nd in everyone’s favourite basement, Undertone, it’s set to 100 capacity so get your tickets quick!

We were stoked to announce that British Teeth will be joining Home Advantage on the opening night of our club night at London’s Old Blue Last on March 21st. Both bands will be playing their final shows, so what better way to give them an awesome send off? The music kicks off just after 9pm and it’s FREE ENTRY all night so no excuses!

If you’re yet to check it out, we relaunched our Gigs section this last week. You can find information on our events as well as all of our favourites from across the UK/EU, and all you need to do check out http://punktastic.com/gigs.

If you reckon your gig should be included, there’s something we’ve missed or you simply want more information, please send a message to gigs@punktastic.com. We’ll be stoked to hear from you whatever the message! Keep an eye on it; we’re updating all the time.

With every silver lining comes a cloud… Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova (and a third member yet to be named) of punk protesters Pussy Riot were arrested in Sochi last week. The pair have been detained on suspicion of robbery – an accusation Tolokonnikova denied in a tweet stating “When we were arrested, we were not performing any kind of action, we were just walking around Sochi.” They had reportedly been in Sochi to perform a new song entitled ‘Putin Will Teach You To Love The Motherland,’ which was released later in the week and can be seen below.

Bayside posted up the new music video for ‘Time Has Come’ last week. It’s taken from their new album, ‘Cult’, and if you’re yet to see it you can check it out using the player in this article. We’re loving it. Grab an album from Silver Bullet Merch over here, and catch the band on tour in the UK this April with Alkaline Trio.

There’s been announcements coming out of our ears this week. One that we’re hugely excited about is the tiny Chiodos London show that’s been announced for Water Rats in King’s Cross on March 7th. The band will be supporting the release of their new album, ‘Devil’, which is out on March 31.

As well as that, All will play an exclusive UK show at the O2 Academy Islington on April 28th, The Menzingers play a sold out show in the teeny Old Blue Last at the end of March, Dropkick Murphys announced a string of shows around this year’s Sonisphere Festival and MXPX announced a headline show in Camden this May.

Also in Camden, Camden Rocks have posted their first lineup announcement online. Apologies I Have None, Colt 45, Menshevik and Crazy Arm are set to play the event on May 31st. Tickets on sale now!

2000 trees have also added a bunch of new bands to the bill this week, including Itch, Blitz Kids and Hawk Eyes. Check out the full line up and ticket info for the festival set for July 10th-12th.

That’s a lot to take in, we know. So, we’ve got a handy list of everything that’s been announced this week with ticket and date info for you to get stuck into.

Comeback Kid’s new album ‘Die Knowing’ is out on March 4th and until then the band are treating us to a clip of a new track each day. The first clip, for track ‘Wasted Arrows,’ can be played below. Keep a look out for more clips!

So it’s not new, but we just can’t help ourselves when it comes to Gnarwolves. Pure Noise and Banquet are putting out the compilation of their first few EPs, titled ‘Chronicles of Gnarnia’, which can be streamed in full via Pure Noise’s Youtube page. How exciting.
