Mallory Knox – Pilot

By Tom Aylott

Bursting out of the burgeoning post-hardcore scene here in the UK, Mallory Knox are firmly part of the new breed.

Their debut EP ‘Pilot’ is moody, dark, and full of promise and melody, and the band really do have nowhere to go but up.

The production on the EP suits the band perfectly, and the five tracks sound cohesive and finely put together.

‘Promises’ and opener ‘Oceans’ are probably the two big hitters of the bunch, but it’s an easily digestible set of five, and there’s enough variation between the tracks to draw in a varied audience.

If there’s a criticism, it’s that they may need to put a bigger stamp of their own personality when they get around to making an album – but for now they’re doing what they do incredibly well, and it’s a great a starting point for a band with a strong future ahead of them.
