In America, we have our annual Thanksgiving holiday, in which we give thanks for all that we have while stuffing ourselves with food. As we learned in school, it’s to commemorate the Pilgrims’ survival of that first harsh winter after arriving from Plymouth, and the assistance of the local tribe of American Indians. In our modern era, however, there are those who don’t have enough to buy food for their daily survival, let alone for a holiday feast. So, for eleven years in a row a group of punks based in North San Diego County have put on a fundraiser to bring in donations of food and money for the North County Food Bank, to help those in need.
This year’s show was the biggest yet, hosted outside of the Legacy Brewing Company’s brewery and tasting room. The event featured vendors of all sorts, a charity raffle for some great prizes donated by local businesses, and nine bands from the western part of the United States. Headlining the show were Fat Wreck Chords’ Get Dead and The Last Gang. Other amazing bands from outside the local area that contributed their talents include Las Vegas’ Mercy Music and the San Fernando Valley’s The Shell Corporation. Locals Lowbrow, Londons Falling, Shake Before Us, and Parade of Horribles performed as well, and acoustic act Matt Salkeld opened the festivities.
