INTERVIEW: ALL TIME LOW

By Lais

A couple of weeks ago, the world-conquering All Time Low did a pretty extensive UK tour. Punktastic went to their Bristol show to hang out in their dressing room and have a typically silly chat with the Baltimore chaps. We talked about becoming bigger than Youtube, touring and love for the UK with frontman Alex Gaskarth and guitarist Jack Barakat.

HOW’S THE TOUR BEEN?

ALEX GASKARTH: Awesome. Real easy. No complaints. Every show’s been awesome.
JACK BARAKAT: The UK’s easy man. All the shows sell out and the kids are crazy.
AG: No, it’s great. Honestly, we’ve been having a blast. The UK treats us well.

WHAT’S BEEN THE BEST SHOW?

AG: So far, Glasgow was probably one of my favourites.
JB: Birmingham was great, and I expect London to be awesome. All three shows!

HOW WILL THE THREE SHOWS BE DIFFERENT?

AG: We try to treat every show differently. We don’t plan anything other than the set.
JB: Anything could happen.
AG: But with that in mind, we’ll probably change up the setlist every night.
JB: The main set will be the same, but we’ll add a couple of songs and take away a couple of songs.
AG: We’re playing a lot of new stuff and the emphasis is definitely on the new record but at the same time we have a pretty extensive catalogue of music at this point, so it’s definitely important for us to play some of it all.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY PLAYING THE MOST? NEW STUFF?

AG: Yeah, I think for everyone that actually plays in a band it’s exciting to play the new stuff because it’s fresh.

WHAT’S NEXT AFTER THIS?

AG: We go from here to Paris and then we go on from Paris to Australia for Soundwave. I’m excited for it. It’s a really good line up this year.

YOU’RE KNOWN FOR YOUR PARTYING. HAS THIS BEEN A ROWDY TOUR?

AG: Yes and no. I think we’re all sort of – I mean, the first couple of nights we went pretty hard and I think jetlag’s catching up with us a little bit. Today we’ve been dragging our feet a little.
JB: Yesterday we found a bar that served Fireball so we got a little crazy.
AG: Fireball is my favourite. We’d love to be endorsed by them! I’m 25 now, so we could. That’s the rule in America, you have to be 25 if you want to be endorsed by a type of alcohol.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AFTER SOUNDWAVE?

AG: More touring. We go from Soundwave to South East Asia and Japan and then we come back to the States and we have two weeks off and then we go out with Pierce The Veil. We’re super excited.

HOW WILL YOU GET ABOVE WHERE YOU ARE NOW? YOU’RE PRETTY BIG RIGHT NOW.

AG: That’s a good question. I don’t know if we have an answer for that. We just have to keep doing what we’re doing and appreciating our fans and putting ourselves out there.

SO WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE?

AG: The biggest band in the world.
JB: U2.
AG: Youtube. We wanna be Youtube level. I wanna be a website.
JB: We’re gonna need 40 more hits. And then we’ll be bigger than Youtube.
AG: That’s the aim, by the end of next year. Even to talk to me, you’re gonna have to listen to a 30 second ad first. You can interview us, but you have to listen to this ad first. This is the best interview ever! You’re gonna have so much to write. We’ve talked about Youtube, U2…
