End of the Year Day Eleven: Losing Sleep

By Maryam Hassan

Throughout December we at PT:HQ are bringing you end of year lists from bands, labels and promoters. We’ll have a new one for you everyday so keep your eyes peeled for them! See all the lists here.

Losing Sleep

NOTE: I’m writing this during a week where I have totally fallen in love with 1989 by Taylor Swift

Top 3 Albums

Martha: Courting Strong. (Fortuna Pop)

One of our favourite bands before they released this record, but this album is brilliant! Not only one of the albums of the year but an album that will still sound as great as it does today as it will in 10 years. Easy.

Maybeshewill: Fair Youth (superball music)

This album sounds HUGE! Really pushing the sound they have always had, so far and it’s only getting better and better.

Hotelier: Home Like No Place Is There. (Tiny Engines)

I was really excited for the new Hotelier album and it didn’t disappoint. The opening track builds up in an amazing way and the whole record is full of great melodies and the guitars sound amazing.

Top 3 Songs

Doe: Redo / Improve. From First Four (specialist Subject Records)

Being in London is so much better for fact we can see this band so often. I love how this song just starts straight off the bat and doesn’t let up.

All Dogs: Buddy. (Salinas Records)

I was lucky enough to catch this band at FEST & this record just made so much sense from then on. They’re so powerful, and listening to this song after seeing it brought that back through to me (which is didn’t before). Brilliant voice, brilliant song!

Modern Baseball: Broken Cash Machine. (Run For Cover)

We were lucky enough to tour with MoBo for a week & a half, this year and seeing the whole room sing this every night was incredible! Perfect.

Pick for 2015

Calls Landing.

We recorded a record with Bob Cooper (due in ’15 too), and he had just recorded the Calls Landing album. We listened to it and it sounded great, really think a lot of people will love this band!
