Britishteeth call it a day… and blame Morrissey

By Ben Tipple

South London punks Britishteeth have taken their self-defined laziness to a new level, and split. Blaming their divided opinions over high-profile vegan and controversial eccentric Morrissey for the ultimate decision, the jokers have posted a suitably tongue-in-cheek goodbye message on their Facebook page.

We’re afraid to say that as of now, britishteeth/british teeth/BRITISHTEETH is no longer a band.

We’d love to say that this is because of some massive drama and falling out, when in fact it’s just down to a difference in levels of Morrissey worship within the group and not being able to decide which is the better record, Definitely Maybe or What’s The Story Morning Glory.

It’s been an incredibly silly few years, for that we’re thankful. If you’d told us at that first band practice that we’d end up supporting the likes of Polar Bear Club, Saves The Day, Nothington and all the incredible bands we’ve had the pleasure of taking the piss out of, then we’d have called you a liar. Alongside that, the response we had to the release of our EP was incredible, and it’s a piece of work we’re all really proud of. We’d been working away on an album but we’d just not managed to get fully into gear – if we couldn’t put 100% into it then it wouldn’t have been fair on those wishing to support us through that process.

BT is super thankful to loads of people, especially Jugs, Angela, Dave and Su and everyone that let us anywhere near a stage.

As is the punk band break-up message norm, we’d normally thank everyone that bought a record and let us sleep on their floors, but we put that record out for free and we never made it on tour, so….thanks for listening to a free ep or coming to the Black Heart to see us play our guitars.

We’ll all be back in some form or another in the future – keep your eyeballs peeled.

If there’s any London promoters out there, we’re probably going to do a little goodbye set somewhere, if someone would like to squeeze our lot onto a bill. Just get in touch. Be nice to see this off with some singsongs.

Thanks for making the last few years a nice place to be. We’ll sign off with a quote from our beloved Moz:

“Long hair is an unpardonable offense which should be punishable by death.”

Much love, James, Joel, Chris, Tom, and Craig (aka, the world’s laziest band) x

We wish the guys all the best with their future endeavors… if they can get off the sofa that is.
