Brits Abroad: Fest11 2012

By Maryam Hassan

We ventured across the Atlantic Ocean to sunny Gainesville, Florida to attend the legendary Fest. Now in it’s 11th year The Fest has become a bit of a Mecca for Punk-Rock fans around the globe. There is a video documentary, blog and loads more photos to come in the next couple of weeks from a whole range of bands that we loved over the weekend and that we think you should check out. But for now we have galleries of three old favourites of ours:

Restorations were by far one of our favourite bands last year, we liked them so much they were the band we chose to end our Fest10 experience. This year they took over High Dive on the Friday and played a set of what we can only describe as awesome mayhem. You can check out Restorations here: http://www.facebook.com/RestorationsTheBand

Rob Lynch can pull out the sing-along classics back home in the UK but this was his first venture out onto American soil. After a rather drunken, impromptu room show in our hotel room on the Thursday night though CMC was full of new American fans singing along to Rob’s awesome brand of acoustic-pop. He’s currently recording his album in the states now, we’re looking forward to it! For more on Rob Lynch: http://www.facebook.com/roblynchmusic

Lastly We Are The Union, who kept the party rocking early Saturday afternoon at the huge Florida Theater. Ska punk is just what was needed to get a huge crowd of people dancing and back in the swing of things after about 2 hours sleep the night before. We Are The Union are touring the UK next year, make sure you dance on over to see them. For more on We Are The Union: http://www.facebook.com/wearetheunion

More photos will be up as the week goes on and next week look out for the Fest11 Video-Documentary, recorded on a PBR binge by all bands involved and a blog.
