Manchester four-piece and self-described heavy pop outfit Church Party have called it a day. “Church Party are amicably splitting up as a musical entity,” they announced on Facebook. “The new video for ‘How Can U Know?’ hopefully goes some way to thanking those closest to us since we formed this band 2 years ago.”
Their somewhat tongue-in-cheek goodbye carries some potentially meaningful messages. Read their thoughts in the video below, and the (almost) full video transcript below that in case your multitasking is as terrible as ours.
“Manchester heavy-pop act, Church Party, are bowing out of the perceptual “scene”. Because we don’t want to be part of a club that would have us as a member. Because nothing in life is promised, except death. You have to try and fail, because failure gets you closer to what you’re good at. When you’re not concerned with succeeding, you can work with complete freedom. All artists are EQUAL. BUT some artists are more equal than others. This isn’t art. It’s just a BBQ that pushed us too far. People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can’t trust people. The music scene is already dominated by white males with guitars anyway. I JUST WATCHED ALL 22 CHAPTERS OF R KELLY’S TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET AND IT WAS CLASS!”
The video continues to list names of those the band wish to thank, followed by some jovial self-mockery. “How Can U Know if you don’t give it a go is the shittest lyric I’ve ever written and here I am pretending to sing it to you,” the video states. “LOL.”
RIP Church Party.
