Defeater share video for ‘Divination’

By Ben Tipple

Defeater have unveiled the official video for ‘Divination’, taken from their recent ‘Abandoned’ LP.

“‘Divination’ picks up where we last left our protagonist in ‘Spared In Hell’; struggling with his vices behind the pulpit but now finding salvation in love and a life outside his seminary,” frontman Derek Archambault informs Substream Magazine; hosts of the video exclusive. “Memories of war and fallen friends haunted his days to lead him further into the depths of addiction, but the love that has found him shines a dim light of hope in his darkest nights.”

The concept for ‘Abandoned’ tells the story Catholic priest who finds strength and weakness during the war. Vocalist Derek Archambault drew influence from his recent life-altering hip surgery.

Archambault is keen to stress that ‘Abandoned’ is not a simple anti-religion stance. “This is my ending metaphor for life—it’s about how people constantly look for answers for their questions in all the wrong places,” he explains.
