End of the Year Day 14: Bear Trade

By Maryam Hassan

Throughout December we at PT:HQ are bringing you end of year lists from bands, labels and promoters. We’ll have a new one for you everyday so keep your eyes peeled for them! See all the lists here.

Bear Trade

Top 3 Albums/Songs of 2014

Crow Bait “Sliding Through The Halls Of Fate”

More laid back than their early offerings, a definite nod to college rather than punk rock which lets the songs shine through gloriously.
Favourite song: ‘Searching For My Boots On The Highway’.

Sleaford Mods “Divide And Exit”

Definitely a “love ’em or hate ’em” mob. 50/50 split in Bear Trade. Personally their grim, scathing and witty attack on the banality of everyday life raise a wry grin on my work commute.
Favourite song: ‘Tied Up In Nottz’. I wish i’d written that bass line.

The Smith Street Band “Throw Me In The River”

It was always gonna be right up there. Whilst loving all their other records, this one feels more like a complete body of work across the whole piece as one listen. Magical.
Favourite song: ‘It’s Alright, I Understand’.

Tip for 2015

Get your ears around the upcoming Fellow Project and Stay Clean Jolene LPs.
