End of the Year Thirty One: Drunken Sailor Records

By Maryam Hassan

Throughout December we at PT:HQ are bringing you end of year lists from bands, labels and promoters. We’ll have a new one for you everyday so keep your eyes peeled for them! See all the lists here.

Drunken Sailor Records

Top Albums of 2014

1. Crow Bait – Sliding Through The Halls Of Fate LP

It’s a record that I have easily played the most, constantly going back to it. The difference between the first 7″ and this is huge. Over here next year.

2. Hank Wood and the Hammerheads – Stay Home LP

People complained that this album wasn’t as good as the first. They are wrong. It’s hypnotic and scare’s the hell out of me…which is a good thing.

3.Reigning Sound – Shattered LP

One of the best bands ever. Perfect drinkin’ whiskey music.

Top 3 Songs of the year.

1. Martha – 1997, Passing In The Hallway

It’s about being at school. Which works cause it totally reminds me of being at school, amazing pop music.

2. Earth Girls – Only Human (from the demo)

I was lucky enough to release their debut 7″, this song isn’t on it. Which sucks.I once listened to this over and over on the way to Leeds. Leeds is a bit shit.

3. Low Culture – Lonely Summer

No idea if this is out yet, maybe on the forthcoming Iron Chic split, but it’s amazing.Sound of your summer.

Pick for next year?

The Repossessed, that demo rules. All those bands from Sheffield are the best.
