Leicester Charlotte to close?

By paul

Submitted: One of the regular punk venues in the U.K., The Charlotte in Leicester, has been placed into administration and will close at the end of January unless a buyer is found. 2008 alone saw A Wilhem Scream, Big D and The Kids Table, Streetlight Manifesto, Strung Out and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists play the venue. Despite its 350 person capacity, The Charlotte has been a venue for over twenty years and has seen many of the genres greats perform including Alkaline Trio, The Buzzcocks,The Distillers, Dropkick Murphies, Husker Du, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Leftover Crack, Less Than Jake, The MIghty Mighty Bosstones, The Minutemen, NOFX, The Offspring, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, Snuff, Thrice and The Vandals play as well as more mainstream acts including Coldplay, Kyuss, The Libertines, Muse, Oasis, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, and Snow Patrol. Perhaps both underwhelming and fiitting, the headliners of the last show on the 31st of January is scheduled to be a Sex Pistols cover band.
