THE NEW PUNKTASTIC IS HERE!
Phew… we made it. The new site is here! Come in and make yourself at home.
When we started down this road – a total from-the-ground-up start-from-scratch re-launch – we knew there were a few things we could improve, like the speed and the design, but the rest was up to you. We ran a big survey in early 2012 to find out what you thought we should do, and you said we should make the new site:
• Tons faster
• Much easier to quickly scan and browse
• Focussed on posting better news and reviews more often
• More integrated with the forums (stage 2! coming soon!)
• The place for awesome festival coverage, and
• A bit more experimental
So that’s what we’ve done.
We’re using WordPress with some fancy technical stuff to make sure the site (and the forums) are way faster, and we can publish quicker and on the move.
EASIER TO FIND OUT WHAT’S NEW
To keep things easy and fast, we’ve replaced the full posts on the homepage (and all the videos and images) with a smaller snippet that’s quicker to scan. We’ve also got a new “ticker” that shows the bands we’re posting about. Click them to see a band page with everything we’ve ever published about the band – going back 11 years!
At the bottom of many posts you’ll see a category and some more band links, so you can quickly more of what you’re most interested in.
At the bottom of the home and news pages you can access our ridiculous archive of over 27,000 news posts. Mad. Try out the search.. if you put in a band name it should take you straight to their page. We’re still ironing out some of the kinks with cool things like that so bear with us if it doesn’t work perfectly every time.
We’re trying to find some ways to just generally be useful, and one of them is some nifty Songkick integration. When you’re on a band page, or a photo gallery, we’ll show you where they’re playing next. The design isn’t quite perfect yet but you get the idea.
As well as the regular massive stream of news, reviews, interviews, photos and galleries – in our own way we’re going to highlight some of the things that might be worth a look. There’s a new space at the top of each section where we’re spotlighting some of your favourites.
DID I FORGET THE MOBILE SITE?
We’re still working on it (and the forum’s coming soon) but this is a huge step up. Have a look!
