Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Russian protest band Pussy Riot have been arrested in Sochi. The pair, pictured above following their previous arrests for hooliganism, have been detained on suspicion of robbery – an accusation Tolokonnikova denies.
Tolokonnikova took to Twitter to proclaim her innocence. “When we were arrested, we were not performing any kind of action, we were just walking around Sochi,” her tweet stated.
Both Pussy Riot members were in Sochi following their open denouncement of the Olympic games, marred by human rights violation allegations.
A third, yet to be named member of the band has also been arrested according to Tolokonnikova.
They had reportedly been in Sochi to perform a new song entitled ‘Putin will teach you how to love the motherland’.
