The mystery of Jim Ward and At The Drive-In concludes

By Ben Tipple

At The Drive-In’s imminent re-reunion tour was preceded by some serious confusion over their status, in part fuelled by guitarist and vocalist Jim Ward’s interview with the El Paso Times back in November 2015.

In it Ward expressed his own bewilderment over the band’s confirmation on the Rock On The Range festival line-up in Ohio. Spurred on by silence from the At The Drive-In camp, their appearance at the event wasn’t as clear cut as the festival poster suggested.

Since then, At The Drive-In have announced further festival appearances, and in January of this year cemented it all with details of their world tour.

As their European dates loom, At The Drive-In have shed a little light on the earlier interview, explaining that Jim Ward is no longer part of the band. “As our ship prepares for voyage, we announce that Jim Ward will not be joining us on future journeys,” the band announced on social media, with little explanation. “We wish him well and are excited to see you soon.”

The announcement puts an end to months of speculation over the state of At The Drive-In, with them now ready to hit the road once more. With some mixed reactions to their last stint across the globe, it’ll be interesting to see what they have in store this time around.
