Heavily influenced by 90s emo, Portland’s Blowout will make you cry with a smile on ‘Indiana’, taken from their ‘No Beer, No Dad’ full-length [due on the 5th August 2016]. The dark humour of their album title is reflected in their sound, the lead track layering Laken Wright’s understated vocals under upbeat instrumentation. Unusually the vocals are blended into the track, each presented as equally prominent.

Taken from an album built around often downbeat shared experiences, ‘Indiana’ is a beacon of light. Yet the jubilant celebration of love is underpinned by Wright’s escapist tones. Much like their influences, Blowout are superficially joyous over a subtle melancholy or anger. Still as the Summer months protrude, Blowout’s bright music is prepared to capture every feeling.
