College have been making their mark on the Kent scene for a couple of years now. Hailing from Canterbury, they’ve celebrated a number of reasonably prominent support slots, including a recent(ish) Dogs On Acid show I attended at Margate’s Westcoast Bar. Their accomplished live sound (try and pull off some of those time signatures on ‘Safe’, we dare you) has now been transferred onto their new EP, ‘Love & Death’, and it sounds remarkable.
The production on College’s sound is brilliant, and pushes them into a new sonic realm. Unusually, it’s one that actually benefits further from being on record. Considering how good it sounds live, that’s huge praise, and ‘Safe’ and ‘Explode’ are both masterful representations of unrelenting math-pop.
