“‘Tiny Flame’ is the first song that we wrote for the album, also making it the first song that got us out of our “emo” shell, and marked the turnover to our “grunge” sound,” Boston four-piece Dæphne explain of their new track. “It is also the last song we wrote before our new and current drummer [Julian Berosh] joined the lineup.”
“Fine-tuning the song with him ended up being how we ultimately found our sound. It’s almost like he was the missing piece of the puzzle. After we had established our new style and knew which direction we wanted to move in, we finally recorded ‘Tiny Flame’ (along with ‘Get Better’) in December, later recording the rest of the album the following spring. We usually open with Tiny Flame at every show.”
The sound self-proclaimed bummer-rock band Dæphne have found follows on from stalwarts in their scene opting for a more lo-fi sound. Far from emulating their peers though, Dæphne’s ‘Tiny Flame’ is truly exceptional. Their sound, lead by vocalist Alexa Johnson, has seen them draw comparisons to the likes of Hop Along, sitting somewhere between the beautiful emo of The Hotelier and the ominous shoegaze of Cloakroom.
With Johnson unable to currently perform due to medical reasons, the band are touring with Gia Greene at the helm, before preparing to release their debut full-length ‘Full Circle’ in the Autumn. Completed by Ryan Higgins (guitar) and Laura Brogan (bass), Dæphne are more than ready to make some waves.
