First play of the new Cold Reading track

By Ben Tipple

Drawing influence from emotive melody driven stalwarts, both old and new, Swiss emo four-piece Cold Reading formed in 2014 following the demise of previous outfits. The band have been tapping into the honest energy of the likes of Brand New and Into It. Over It. since, and have no unveiled their new track, ‘Losing Ground’.

“Leaving something behind is a recurring theme throughout our songs, but probably nowhere is it as prevailing as in ‘Losing Ground’,” explains drummer Marc Breitenmose. “The imagery of this song is inspired by Lewis Trondheim’s graphic novel ‘Island Bourbon 1730’, in which a fire causes an island to lose its habitability. This literary backbone is combined with a longing for better things in real life, to which leaving the decaying island by ship serves as a kind of metaphor.”

“‘Losing Ground’ was the last song we wrote for our full length,” Breitenmose continues. “Our singer Mike already had all the lyrics and some chords when he came to a rehearsal one day. Soon we fleshed out the song and when everything clicked, we definitely wanted to include it on our album. Our full length album will be out this fall via Flix Records and fall tour dates will be announced soon.”
