First play of the new EP from Hildamay

By Glen Bushell

Its not always inevitable, but sometimes bands will have to make a decision wether they want to continue or not. Any number of factors can come into play, but ultimately an artists must do whats right for them at the time. This was something that happened to Kent quartet Hildamay a couple of years ago, and it was an unexpected one. After numerous high profile shows, gaining a devoted fan base, and not long after releasing their excellent album ‘Miles Away’, the members of Hildamay felt it was time to step away from the band and move on to other things.

Sometimes, it seems you don’t realise what you have until its gone. Feeling that there was some unfinished business to attend to, Hildamay have decided to pick up where they left off with their brand new ‘Muscle Memory’ EP, which we are exclusively streaming for the next 48 hours.

“Basically, we recorded ‘Muscle Memory’ back in 2013 with Oz Craggs” says vocalist Tim Lawerence of the EP. “Shortly after the recording process we decided to disband; shelving the record as to be honest it just didn’t feel right to put it out.”

“After some time apart and some ventures into other bands and styles we decided that it felt right to play one last show and put the record out for people to hear. It was always something we were proud of. These are seven songs that are about the struggles we faced both personally and as band”.

What the future holds for Hildamay remains to be seen, but the songs on ‘Muscle Memory’ deserve to be heard, and should never have been shelved in the first place. The main thing is that they are back now, and hopefully here to stay. To celebrate the release of the EP, Hildamay will play a release show at Birthdays in London on September 19th with Attention Thieves and Muskets. Tickets for the show are available here, and also includes a free copy of ‘Muscle Memory’ which you can hear below.
