“It was pretty much two of us listening to Weezer and one of us said “I’d love to do a band like this”, and the other said “OK”,” explains Andrew Fisher of the formation of Great Sale Day. “After that it was just a case of asking people we thought would be into it and the band was born.”
Fisher is perhaps more well known as a member of the recently returned underground heroes Basement. Great Sale Day sees him joined by Ed McRae of Your Demise, Daniel Frye of Unholy Majesty, and Ben Saker of Breaking Point.
“I think it’s just that everyone is very relaxed and doesn’t expect anything out of it,” Fisher goes on to speak of the band’s ethos. “We haven’t even discussed playing a show. We just wanted to have fun and be creative.”
Taking influence from the aforementioned Weezer, Great Sale Day see Fisher and co. delve into their grunge roots. Their carefree attitude is matched by their songs. Great Sale Day is about enjoying themselves. “We’re pretty inactive but very proactive,” Fisher admits. “When we do do things, we do it very quickly. The whole LP was made over around three days.”
“We’ve already done it – we recorded an LP. That in itself is pretty funny and we just want for as many people to hear it as possible,” Fisher responds when asked about Great Sale Day’s exceptions of their forthcoming LP, ‘Wild And Chunky’, before going on to express his eternal gratitude towards Joe at Close To Home Records.
With the grunge revival well under-way, Great Sale Day are clear where they sit within the scene. ” I think it already made a comeback. We’re too late. I say throw us away,” Fisher laughs.
