First play of the new Grieving track, ‘Warmest Jets’

By Ben Tipple

With a debut EP underway that sporadically nods towards British math-rock, Americana and a whole wealth of artists from the “golden era” of emo (read: Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Braid etc.), Cambridge four-piece Grieving have already been getting pulses racing.

‘Warmest Jets’, the final track to emerge from their imminent ‘Demonstrations’ EP (following ‘No Sleep‘, ‘Ownership‘, ‘My Friend, The Ghost‘ and ‘Little Armoured‘) continues to demonstrate the record’s complexity. Throwing away structural convention it showcases their delicacy and melody, rounded off by their punk inspired vocals.

“‘Warmest Jets’ was maybe the third song we ever wrote but it seemed to get shorter and shorter each time we went back to it,” the band explain of the track’s immediacy. “We dropped a whole verse and chorus just before we went to master the record. We kind of like the way outside of the title of the track most of the melodic phrasing only repeats itself the once, in a way that that brevity might lead people to want to press play a second or third time to have sink in. It’s a skewed, noisy pop song and we look forward to writing many more like it.”

‘Demonstrations’ will be available from Friday 29th July. In the meantime, stream new track ‘Warmest Jets’ exclusively below.

Grieving will be playing a number of shows in support of the record, launching ‘Demonstrations’ with a hometown appearance this evening [27th July].
