First play of the new Not Scientists track

By Ben Tipple

French melodic punks Not Scientists are gearing up to release their debut full-length, ‘Destroy to Rebuild’ on the 6th March 2015. It provides a careful balance between its downtrodden theme – “I guess it’s about fucking up, finding out that nothing lasts for ever, and learning things the hard way,” says vocalist and guitarist Ed – and its comparably upbeat atmosphere. ‘Destroy to Rebuild’ traverses punk, indie and surf territories – with new track ‘Tomorrow’s Another Day’ showcasing a whole lot of the latter.

“It’s about having a hard time accepting the impermanence of things in life, that theme kind of runs throughout the album,” Ed says of the track, once again in contrast to its overall vibe. This juxtaposition gives some added depth to the catchy melody on ‘Tomorrow’s Another Day’, but also gives an indication of the band’s relative short career. “This is our first full length album so it’s a really exciting moment for us. It’s also interesting because we’re kind of discovering how our band’s sound is developing at the same time as the listeners,” Ed explains.

Not Scientists spawned from the demise of Ed and fellow vocalist Jim’s former outfit Uncommonmenfrommars, whom they played with for over a decade. “When Uncommonmenfrommars decided to stop playing, Jim and I wanted to do something different and put together this band,” Ed continues. “With this band we’re kind of opening up to lots of different influences we never got a chance to in the past. It’s super fun and refreshing. We did not want to sound over produced like most productions these days, we’ve been there. With Not Scientists we try to stick to very natural and raw sounds. The record is pretty much what you’ll get live.”

‘Tomorrow’s Another Day’, available to exclusively stream below, is taken from ‘Destroy To Rebuild’ – due on the 6th March 2015 via Kicking Records, Delete Your Favourite Records and Torreznetes Entertainment. With the aim of developing a live sound on record, the album was recorded in 2 weeks with the drums tracked live, rather than using samples. With their 2015 aim to catch up with old friends, make new ones and to see the world, Not Scientists will be heading to the UK in March in support of the record.

The record can be pre-ordered via BandCamp, where fans can hear the previously released lead single, ‘Just Break Me’.
