‘Mario 1-2’, the latest track by Scottish five-piece Schnarff Schnarff, celebrates life whilst questioning existentialism. Inspired by family illness the track utilises the darker lyrics to propel the band’s sound forward, allowing creativity to emerge triumphantly from tragedy.
“This song represents the grungier aspects of our sound and the raw crunching of feedback is an element of this song we pride ourselves on,” the band explain. “Working with producer and legend Paul Savage [We Were Promised Jetpacks, Twilight Sad] really brought out the rawness of our sound and this song is a perfect example of what we set out to achieve… 90s grungey rock with a hint of the alt rock and pop punk from the 00s.”
“The lyrical content delves into Myles’ [vocals] mental battle while dealing with the illness of his grandfather in 2015, weaving in and out of existentialism, angst and the odd moment of brightness in a time of torment,” the explain of the darker themes. “The change in key and noticeable step-up in heaviness represents the point when Myles envisages himself in a hospital bed, older and fatigued, and lying like his Granddad… worried about life and where we go after “as time rolls over time”.”
‘Mario 1-2’ will appear on the band’s forthcoming ‘The evil that we do…’ LP, due on the 9th September 2016 via Black Dug Records.
