First play of the new Six Time Champion track

By Ben Tipple

“There’s a lot of dishonesty in life,” states Six Time Champion vocalist James Dagg when speaking of the themes discussed on their forthcoming EP, ‘Expecting Honesty’. “Whether it’s an exaggeration, a little white lie, or someone who will actively be dishonest for some sort of gain, you’ll always end up dealing with people that will lie and be dishonest. And yet, you still expect honesty from people that you deal with in life – being honest isn’t really that difficult.”

With that, Six Time Champion are honest about their influences. Although far from straight-forward pop-punk, the Brighton based five-piece aren’t afraid to cite contemporaries Set Your Goals, Such Gold and A Day To Remember as major motivators. When joining the British pop-punk throngs increasingly dominated by As It Is, ROAM, Neck Deep and more, a clear direction and heritage can be key.

Where Six Time Champion see themselves set apart is in their heaviness. They inherit the fundamentals of the genre that have driven these contemporaries, yet deliberately blur those confines. On the opening track, ‘Running Dry’, the band demonstrate their punchy melodies and vocal styles that successfully sit between US and homegrown counterparts and the likes of the aforementioned A Day To Remember. Perhaps most surprisingly, largely led by the melody, ‘Running Dry’ sounds both fresh and exciting.

‘Expecting Honesty’ will be released on the 1st December 2014. For more on Six Time Champion, check out their official Facebook page.
