First play of the new Spineless Yes Men EP

By Ben Tipple

“Ten years ago, an old band of mine was reviewed on Punktastic, the review said that what we needed to do was stamp our own identity on the pop punk genre, rather than letting the genre stamp it’s identity on us,” Spineless Yes Men guitarist Chris Doughty reveals candidly. “Well, with this new Spineless Yes Men release, I really believe that we are putting our own twist on my favourite genre of music.”

‘The Death Of Denmark’ sees the London based six-piece – complete with three guitarists – add a distinctive British twist to the genre. As Doughty explains that he doesn’t see the value of UK acts mimicking Jordan Pundik or Parker Cannon, Spineless Yes Men mix their pop-punk sensibilities with straightforward alt-rock and little folk-punk, not too far removed from troubadour Frank Turner.

“After six years together as a band, we feel that we’ve really found the sound we’ve been working towards,” Doughty proclaims enthusiastically. “We recorded ‘The Death of Denmark’ with amazing producers Antonio Hanna (Tonight Alive, NIGHTLIFE) and Paul Frost at the end of last year, and we’re really proud of it. We’re excited to be releasing it via Speaking Tongues and can’t wait to get out there and start playing these songs.”
