First play of the new The Tiny Ugly Germs track, ‘Bad Motivator’

By Ben Tipple

There’s an understated beauty in the pain of the new The Tiny Ugly Germs track, ‘Bad Motivator’. “It’s an account of headstrong love that overflowed into the bounds of self-harm,” the Michigan outfit explain, providing context to the dense lyrics.

The track moves from the expansive sounds of newer Seahaven with a Bon Iver touch, before the raw cracked vocals bring the heartbreak home. The Tiny Ugly Germs sit on the border of shoegaze territory, not shying away from overt emotion. Not all doom and gloom, ‘Bad Motivator’s dreamlike state injects an airy atmosphere that helps to signify hope.

The Tiny Ugly Germs aren’t taking themselves too seriously either. “It’s also a common problem among R2 units,” they laugh, referring to the song’s title.

‘Bad Motivator’ is taken from the forthcoming 3rd volume of Save Your Generation Records’ 4 way split 7″ series, ‘TV Dinner‘. It will be available from the 30th March alongside tracks by Hot Mulligan, Kayak Jones and Backpacks.
